Strengthening Partnership between LPJK and UNY through Competency Certification Test

The Faculty of Engineering, UNY, in collaboration with the Ministry of PUPR, held debriefing and certification tests for Engineering Faculty students. The activity which was held at the Faculty of Engineering was attended by students from the Department of Electrical Engineering Education, UNY (Thursday, (5/12). The provisioning and certification test activities were followed by the Department of Electrical Engineering with skills tests, namely programmed control installation technicians (PLC based) and lighting and power installation technician Phase Three.

The debriefing was held on Thursday, December 5, while the certification test was held two days later. Competency testing is carried out through practice and interviews. In the provisioning activity for programmable control installation technicians (PLC based) carried out at the Automation Laboratory and lighting installation technicians carried out at the Electrical Installation Workshop.

According to Alex Sandria, as lecturer and coordinator of the competency test of the Department of Electrical Engineering Education, said that the purpose of holding this competency certification test is to produce graduates of Electrical Engineering Education Department students who can become professional engineering personnel in the world of work in particular and improve the quality of UNY graduates in general. So that with these competencies, the public is more confident and trusting in UNY graduates to be able to work well. Competency certification is increasingly needed to face global competition, especially the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

The assessment is carried out independently by the assessor, without pressure from any party. The assessor also determines whether the student is competent or not in this field. Hopefully this activity can run sustainably. Students also have to prepare themselves to take exams like this. This activity is free of charge at all because of the collaboration with PUPR through the LPJK (Lembaga Pengembangan Jasa Kontruksi). (Rohjai)
